About Solar Decathlon

What do we do?

We build a house! Not just any house. The solar-powered, cost-effective, energy efficient and, last but not least, attractive-looking house.

Where?

In China, just near Beijing, as the house will be part of Winter Olympic 2022 facilities!

When?

Who?

We, our team! We are going to design, model, develop and construct it. We are taking all risks and chances on board and are not afraid to go for it 100% engaged. If you are interested in joining us, please fill out the questionnaire, or feel free to email us!

Why?

We have the power to change the world and make it a better place. Just like that.

What do I get from it?

It’s up to you. We just offer you a chance to present yourself in front of a great amount of people, institutions, governments, companies, investors and many others.

What I can give?

We are looking for everyone, who share the same goal, interests, who are openminded and willing to act. You may be an engineer, a youtuber, a designer or a student of sociology or architecture. We will use your knowledge and ideas protecting your IP and know-how.

Competition description

Solar Decathlon (SD) is an award-winning program that challenges collegiate teams to design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, Energy efficient and attractive.

  • Solar - During the competition, the operation of the houses will be solely powered by solar energy.
  • Decathlon - The competition entries will be comprehensively assessed in ten independently scored contests (see below).

Where it is organized?

At present Solar Decathlon competition is organized on six continents:

AGH UST has been invited for cooperation by China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), Xuzhou, P.R. China to take part in the competition of Solar Decathlon China 2021. The Competitors from CUMT and AGH UST should work as ONE team for the competition.

The history
of Solar Decathlon China

2013 China, Datong, Shanxi Province

The first Solar Decathlon China was held in Datong, Shanxi Province in 2013. 37 universities and more than 1,000 college students from 13 countries took part in the whole design and construction. In addition, there were support and participation of more than 30 governmental agencies, more than 200 international institutions and the enterprises in relevant industries, as well as 260,000 visitors.

2018 China, Dezhou, Shandong Province

In 2018, the City of Dezhou in Shandong Province successfully hosted the second SDC event: 19 teams from 34 universities, 370 enterprises and 500,000 visitors.

2021 China, Zhangjiakou, Hubei Province

Solar Decathlon China 2021 will take place in the city of Zhangjiakou, Hubei Province, China; SDC invites up to 15 teams to build up competition prototypes to meet a triple challenge in the context of the host city

The city of Zhangjiakou will recognize and maintain the prototypes as facilities serving for its Winter Olympic 2022, living labs of the National Renewable Energy Demonstrative Zone and models for regional sustainable development. Teams are allowed to access them for testing purposes within one year since the completion of the competition.

AGH UST and China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) have signed a Memorandum which establis the collaboration of both Parties in Solar Decathlon China 2021 competition. In Poland project is coordinated by AGH University of Science and Technology employees.
